We are excited to share that Mark Gillis, Principal Consultant at Triton Consulting and long-standing member of the Db2 community, recently joined the IDUG Db2 Table Talk podcast to discuss his extensive career and the ongoing development of Db2.
Hosted by Marcus Davage and Julia Carter, the conversation offers a unique look at the person behind Triton’s technical blogs and presentations, exploring how Mark built his 30-year career in IT.
Highlights include Mark’s story of his ‘accidental’ entry into the world of IT and Db2, from earning a history degree to working on the Cadbury Creme Egg production line, before eventually volunteering for Db2 training during a contract at IBM in Sydney.
Mark also shares his thoughts on companies’ growing shift toward open source, the impact of AI and its emerging role in database administration, as well as life beyond data. He talks about his passion for aviation and aerobatics and how these pursuits help him maintain focus in his technical consulting work.
