The Polish Db2 Users Group (PDUG) is hosting its next big conference on May 28–29, 2025, at IBM’s office in Kraków. It’s a great chance for anyone working with Db2 to meet up, share ideas, and learn from one another.
This year, Db2 expert John Campbell has been selected to present twice at PDUG. After decades at IBM, where he played a key role in developing and supporting Db2 for z/OS, he now works as a senior consultant at Triton Consulting.
John’s two sessions are as follows:
Design for High Performance Concurrent Insert Processing
When: Wednesday 28th May, 11:45 – 12:45
This session will provide a technical deep dive on designing for high performance concurrent insert processing. This session will introduce and discuss the following topics: key physical design questions, typical performance bottlenecks, insert free space search steps, relevant Db2 features which can help. The session will conclude with a war story to illustrate key learning points.
Primer on Bufferpool Tuning
When: Thursday 29th May, 13:30-14:30
This session will cover topics on both local and group buffer pools.
For local buffer pools the following topics will be introduced and discussed:
- Common problems
- Use of multiple buffer pools
- Key metrics for read efficiency
- Page classification and LRU processing
- Buffer pool simulation
- Use of long-term page fixed buffers
- Use of large size real memory frames
- Contiguous buffer pool
For group buffer pools the following topics will be introduced and discussed:
- Common problems
- Best practice for CFRM Policy settings
- Key metrics and messages
- Rough calculation of required number of directory entries and changed pages
If you work with Db2, this event is a good opportunity to pick up practical tips and hear directly from someone who has helped shape the technology. John’s sessions are always packed with useful advice to take back to the office and put to use.
