Supporting the Next Generation of Mainframe Talent
Triton Consulting is proud to sponsor Kyle Pressley through the WAVEZ Student Scholarship at this year’s GSUK Conference taking place this week at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire.
Although we didn’t get to share the news before his session this morning, Kyle has already made his mark on day one of the conference with his presentation “Mainframe101: Everything you need to know about mainframes”, a session designed to introduce newcomers to the world of IBM Z and set them up for success throughout the week.
About Kyle
Kyle is a 17-year-old Computer Science T-Level student whose mainframe journey began just one year ago at GSUK24, after being introduced to the WAVEZ Scholarship Programme by his college lecturer.
At last year’s conference, Kyle seized every opportunity, networking widely and ultimately securing a work placement with IBM at their York Road office in London. During his time there, he reconnected with members of the IBM Z team and even featured in the IBM Z Skills Fest opening video, a memorable highlight that marked the start of his growing involvement in the mainframe community.
From 3D Modelling to Mainframes
Beyond his studies, Kyle has blended his passion for 3D printing and 3D modelling to create innovative mainframe-inspired projects. His designs have sparked attention and conversation across LinkedIn and within the IBM Z community, showcasing both creativity and technical curiosity.
An Emerging Leader in the IBM Z Community
Today, Kyle represents IBM as their youngest Student Ambassador and serves as a Mainframe Society Ambassador. His active contributions have earned him recognition as an IBM Z and LinuxONE Community Contributor, and he has recently been nominated as an IBM Champion for the 2026 cohort, an incredible achievement for someone still in full-time education.
GSUK25: A Full-Circle Moment
Returning to GSUK25 as both a speaker and WAVEZ scholar, Kyle presented his talk Mainframe101: Everything you need to know about mainframes alongside Niall Ashley. The session provided newcomers with an accessible introduction to mainframes, along with practical resources such as a Mainframe101 help sheet and a look into the Mainframe101 organisation Kyle founded.
Supporting Future Talent
At Triton Consulting, we believe in the importance of investing in the next generation of mainframe professionals. Through our sponsorship of Kyle and the WAVEZ programme, we’re proud to help open doors for students and early-career technologists who are shaping the future of enterprise computing.
We look forward to following Kyle’s journey throughout the conference and beyond.
