Triton DB2 Experts Blown Away By BLU
IBM launched the latest version of DB2 for LUW, DB2 10.5, in June of this year. It’s new BLU Acceleration technology has taken the industry by storm with customers and business partners around the world getting excited about the Big Data capabilities which it offers.
BLU Acceleration gives customers much faster access to key information thus helping them to efficiently manage growing amounts of data. Big Data has been a hot topic for some time now and this new technology from IBM plays into this need for managing large amounts of data from disparate sources both quickly and economically.
Multiple compression techniques are combined in DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration to create a near optimal compression strategy. "When Adaptive Compression was introduced in DB2 10.1, having achieved storage savings of up to 70%, I was convinced this is as good as it gets. However, with DB2 10.5 with BLU Acceleration, I have been proven wrong! Converting my row-organised, uncompressed table to a column-organised table gave me a massive 93.5% storage savings!" says Iqbal Goralwalla, Head of DB2 Midrange Services, Triton Consulting & IBM Champion.
Triton Consulting Ltd were part of the early access program for DB2 10.5 and have run a significant amount of testing on their in-house environment. Iqbal goes on to state that "My row-organised, adaptive compressed table gave me 3.2x storage savings. However, converting my row-organised, uncompressed table to a column- organised table in DB2 10.5 delivered a massive 15.4x savings!"
