Earlier this month, members of the Triton Consulting team attended the latest London Db2 User Group (LDUG) event, joining Db2 professionals from across the UK for a day of technical presentations, industry insights and valuable networking opportunities.
Triton on the Stage
We were proud to see two of Triton Consulting’s IBM Champions presenting during the event.
Rob Gould delivered a well-attended session on “Db2 Load – Strategies to Speed up Loading Very Large Tables”, sharing his expertise and practical experience with fellow Db2 professionals, while Gareth Copplestone-Jones also took to the stage to present on “Access Paths for Beginners”. Both sessions were well received and contributed to the strong technical content that attendees have come to expect from LDUG.
Also representing Triton were Iqbal Goralwalla and Alan Roberts, who both joined delegates for a packed day of learning, discussion and networking. We’re always pleased to see our team contributing their expertise and experiences at LDUG.
Quantum Computing Takes Centre Stage
A clear highlight of the day was the opening session on quantum-safe computing by IBM’s Zakeer Suleyman and its implications for mainframe security and cryptography.
The presentation generated plenty of discussion throughout the event and was repeatedly highlighted by our Triton attendees as one of the standout sessions of the day. Alan Roberts described the talk as particularly interesting due to its relevance to mainframe cryptography, while both Rob Gould and Iqbal Goralwalla also singled it out as a memorable and thought-provoking presentation.
As organisations continue to prepare for future security challenges, the topic clearly struck a chord with attendees and provided plenty of food for thought.
The Inaugural Db2 LUW Stream
Another standout moment came during the inaugural Db2 LUW stream.
When IBM’s scheduled presenters were unable to attend, the session evolved into an open roundtable discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to freely share experiences, discuss challenges and exchange ideas. Rather than detracting from the agenda, the format created some of the most engaging conversations of the day.
Rob Gould highlighted the session as a personal favourite, while Iqbal Goralwalla praised the interactive nature of the discussions and the opportunity for delegates to collaborate on real-world Db2 topics.
AI and Emerging Technologies Drive Discussion
Artificial intelligence was another major topic on delegates’ minds, particularly how organisations can move beyond experimentation and begin realising tangible value from the significant investments being made in AI technologies.
As Alan noted, many attendees were asking similar questions: how can AI be used effectively today, and how will it shape the future of technical roles and organisations in the years ahead? While opinions varied, there was a clear sense that the focus is shifting from AI as a future possibility to AI as a practical tool that businesses can begin leveraging now.
This blend of discussion around AI, security and emerging technologies made for some engaging conversations.
More Than Just Technical Sessions
While the presentations were undoubtedly a major draw, attendee feedback highlighted another key benefit of the event: the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the industry.
From catching up with familiar faces to meeting new members of the Db2 community, the networking opportunities were every bit as valuable as the formal agenda.
As Rob put it:
“An excellent day, very well supported with as much done in the breaks as in the room.”
That sentiment was echoed throughout the day, with discussions continuing long after individual sessions had finished.
Alan Roberts summed up the event perfectly:
“A well organised and supported day for Db2 professionals to gain knowledge and swap experiences.”
