IDUG EMEA 2026 Porto – Day 3

When you’re in a new city and think the 20-minute walk to the Conference will be refreshing, remember to check that the route isn’t a dual carriageway.  The non-dual carriageway option was 3.5 miles and takes an hour and a half; I tried it yesterday.

Even so, I arrived in time to see Mark Gillis present on ‘Experiences with the AI Query Optimiser’, a very well-attended session. Mark went through how you can prove to yourself & your customers what this feature can do for you, which was very insightful. Mark ended up with a queue of attendees waiting to talk to him when he’d finished, which is always an excellent sign, and has never happened to me.

I moderated Hidden in Plain Sight: Unlocking Db2 for z/OS Recovery Capabilities at NatWest with Dhiren Chaudhary. He gave us another excellent session running through Recovery Options and suggestions for implementing and practising Recovery at our own sites, a very well-attended session with a lot of questions and comments from the Audience.

Lastly, we joined Julia Carter and Michal Bialecki for The Db2z Game: From 90% to “The 1% Club”.

A Db2 quiz to end the day in the format of “The 1% Club”, which was hugely enjoyable, and I think we all learnt something.

Last day tomorrow, and I’m presenting at 9:00am on stream F15 if you want to come and see me.
